Understanding the Biblical Story

When Jesus entered Peter's house, he found his mother-in-law feverish and in bed. Jesus went to her, took her by the hand, and the fever left her. She immediately got up and began to serve them. This story in Matthew 8:14-15 demonstrates Jesus' power over illness and His compassion for the sick and vulnerable.

By discussing this story with your child while they color, you help them grasp the significance of Jesus' miracles and His teachings on empathy and healing. You might ask questions like, "Why do you think Jesus healed Peter's mother-in-law?" or "What did she do after she felt better?"

Coloring the Scene

Now that you've set the context, it's time for your child to bring the story to life with colors! The coloring page illustrates Jesus reaching out to help Peter's mother-in-law, with other apostles present. Your child can use their imagination to fill in the scenes with vibrant colors and help them connect with the story on a deeper level.

Encourage them to think about the emotions of the characters and how colors can represent those feelings. For example, they might use warm colors for the sun shining through the window, symbolic of Jesus' healing power, and soft, soothing colors for the mother-in-law's bed as she recovers.

Extending the Learning Experience

After completing the coloring page, explore other craft ideas or activities to reinforce the story's themes. You could create a simple booklet featuring the illustration and a short,-age-appropriate retelling of the event, or make a paper lantern to represent Jesus' healing power illuminating the sick.

A role-play activity could also be engaging, with your child acting as Jesus and performing a mini "healing" on their favorite stuffed animal or doll. This hands-on experience can help them better understand Jesus' compassion and the concept of healing.

As you wrap up this spiritual craft session, remind your child that Jesus loves and cares for them, just as He cared for Peter's mother-in-law. Encourage them to share the story with others and to show kindness and compassion in their own lives.
