April and May bring us the exhilarating Cherry season. The enchanted town of Marostica in Veneto hosts a Jteren cherry Blossom festival, while the Italian Alps' Vignola turns pink with Montesortino cherries, perfect for jams and liqueurs.

Strawberries and more

May and June signal the arrival of strawberry season. Puglia, with its reddish soil, produces some of Italy's sweetest strawberries. Don't miss the Strawberry Festival in Fragagnano, where you can indulge in fresh fruit accompanied by local wine and music.

June is also the month of luscious apricots. Vignola, known as Italy's 'city of apricots,' hosts the Maronda delle Ciliegie e delle Pesche (Cherry and Peach Festival), celebrating both these sumptuous fruits.

Stone fruits and berries

July kicks off the season of stone fruits – peaches, plums, and apricots. These velvety textures and luscious tastes are a true Italian summer classic. The region of Abruzzo takes center stage, boasting the Diamante Delle Fraghe (Diamond of Peaches) - a prestigious award given to the finest peaches in Italy.

The early summer months also see an abundance of berries. Blackberries, blueberries, raspberries - all at their sweetest and juiciest. The Langhe region in Piedmont is famous for its raspberries, while the Sienese countryside yields luscious blackberries and blueberries.

Summer's abundance

As summer reaches its zenith, so does the variety and volume of seasonal fruits.

August is the month of figs – succulent, sweet, and oh-so-moreish. Tuscany's aggregated towns, known as P carburba, are a paradise for fig lovers. Don't miss the Sagra della Fica (fig festival) in Canossa, where you can sample fig jam, cakes, and even fig ice cream!

Beneath the olive trees

Late summer and early autumn herald the season of Autumn Royalty - grapes and olives. The Veneto region explodes with color as vineyards prepare for the vendemmia (grape harvest). In chianti, this is an occasion to celebrate with traditional folk displays, banquets, and, of course, Chianti wine.

Olive groves cast their silver-green glow across the Italian landscape. In southern Puglia, where the olives grow fat and juicy, the harvests are lively affairs. Celebrate this liquid gold at Primavera dell'Olio (Spring of Oil) in Ostuni, where you can taste the new olive oil and watch traditional olive pressings.

Every season in Italy brings a new fruitful chapter, so pack your baskets (and maybe a bottle or two of wine) and embark on a journey of discovery through Italy's seasonal fruit scene. Buon appetito!
