Snowy Measurement Station

Set up a measurement station in your backyard or a local park. Equip it with a ruler, a measuring tape, a Thermometer, and a ruler with centimeters and inches. Then, let your little ones measure various aspects of their winter wonderland:

  • How much snow has accumulated on the fence or a tree branch?
  • What's the temperature indoors and outdoors?
  • How long are their snow angel wings, or the shadows they cast?

This hands-on experiment helps children understand measurement conversions and comparison precisely.

Frosty's Number Hunt

Hide numbers around your garden or backyard, and let your kids find them. Try to make the hunt challenging by involving some pocas like:

  • numérique order (1-10, 1-20, etc.)
  • Finding numbers in a specific pattern (like odd numbers or multiples of 5)
  • Solving simple puzzles or riddles to find the next number

For older students, encourage them to make their hunts by creating clues and hiding spots themselves. This activity fosters critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and creative math application.

Snowman Ten Frames Addition

Draw or print ten-frame templates and let your kids create snowmen with buttons for eyes, mouths, and carrot noses. The trick? They must place an equal number of buttons in each frame, practicing their addition skills as they build their snowmen.

For an extra challenge, try subtraction by asking them to remove buttons from the ten-frames.

IceCube Toss LapbookGenesis

Transform an old tissue box into a fun math game by filling it with cubes (ice cubes or dice). The objective is to toss the cubes into one of the compartments (each representing a number). Once all the cubes have been tossed, count the total number in each compartment. This exercise helps reinforce addition, subtraction, and counting skills.

For a more interactive version, use a bowl filled with ice cubes. Students roll dice, and for each roll, they must guess how many cubes will fit into the bowl without spilling. After their guess, they add all the cubes, count how many fit, and subtract any leftover cubes.
